Lab Equipment

Concrete 3D-printer is a combined system “Scara Elite Roadrunner, ”  The combined system includes 1) Scara Elite printer, 2) rail track, and 3) concrete pump. The maximum operational space of the combined system at one set-up is W=116 in. L=278 in. H=100 in. The printer is capable of printing at average speed of 1.2 inch to 3.9 inch per second (30 to 100 mm/s). The 3D-printing system is equipped with different nozzle size ranges from ¼ inch to 2 inches.  The concrete pump operates continuously on 220V service. The pump has the ability to pump up to ~6.7 gallons of material per minute through 85 ft. of 1″ hose. Start pumping with the variable flow rate of 1.7 to 54 cubic feet per hour. ARC lab is also equipped with stationary mixer/printer with auger system. This auger system allows direct control over of the flow rate of concrete printing. The auger can be directly controlled by the Scara Elite, the standalone driver print speeds can be easily adjusted.

The ARC Lab also hosts high shear mixer (Imer 360 Mortarman). The mixer has drum capacity of 12 cubic feet with maximum batch output of 9 cubic feet. The mixer has electric motor with 5 horsepower. The drum diameter is 38 inches. The total dimension of the mixer is 59 inch x 58 inch x 50 inch.

The Arc Lab also hosts collaborative robotic arm (UR10e). The UR10e is an extraordinarily versatile collaborative industrial robot, delivering both high payload of 28 lbs (12.5 kg) lift and long reach 52 inch (1300 mm) which makes it well suited for a wide range of applications in machine tending, palletizing, and packaging. The UR10e is also offered as an OEM robot system and with a 3-Position Enabling Teach Pendant. The collaborative robotic is utilized to place reinforcement while printing and utilized for concrete spray equipment.

The Structural Engineering Laboratory hosts equipment that will be utilized in testing the proposed braces under both cyclic and low-cycle fatigue loading, including the servo-hydraulic actuator model MTS 244.31 capable of applying static and dynamic loading up to 55 kips (244 kN) with 20-inch stroke (508 mm). The actuator is connected to MTS hydraulic service manifolds (HSMs) which reliably control the distribution of hydraulic flow to test stations. In addition, the MST SilentFlo™ hydraulic power units (HPUs) provide clean, quiet, and energy-efficient hydraulic power supply. The actuator is currently mounted in a vertical position for a bending test using the self-supporting frame. The actuator will be re-configured to apply cyclic and fatigue loading in a horizontal configuration using the same self-reacting frames. In addition to the servo-hydraulic actuator, the structural laboratory is equipped with loading frames (MTS 810 Material Test System) capable of applying cyclic and fatigue loading up to 22.5 kips (100 kN). In addition, the laboratory recently purchased a portable, IP-based 250 kg shake table . The 250 kg shake table has a large payload capacity, 250 kg at 1 g acceleration with a +/- 200 mm stroke. It comes with super low-friction precision linear guides, a linear magnetic motor, an integrated limit switch for enhanced safety, automatic centering/home positioning, and rubber strips for damping and stabilization
